Recent rumors from the People's republic say that the BMW-Brilliance joint venture will enter a new stage this year and that the German manufacturer will help the Chinese company establish itself as a worldwide presence.
However, nothing is official so far and everyone is just speculating. Most of the international press is waiting for the Shanghai Auto Show for further details and, who knows, maybe even an official confirmation.
According to China Car Times, it seems like the first offspring of this venture will be a new MPV based on Brilliance's own Jinbei. Their sources claim that this new MPV will be competing with Mercedes-Benz's B-Class.
The Jinbei-based car will supposedly have BMW's N20 2-liter turbocharged engine and will aim at the premium MPV segment due some new technology and better performance figures.
All things considered, this move doesn't seem likely, especially since the March sales of German MPVs declined by 11 percent in China whilst American MPVs registered a 8.9 percent increase.
