Fuso Canter to Sell in the US

The need to make the full out of all the markets at its disposal has determined German group Daimler to sell, for the first time in history, the Fuso Canter line of light trucks outside Japan. Produced by Daimler's Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), the new generation canter will be sold starting this year in the US.

For the local market, the Canter will come with a series of unique features, built on the eighth generation of the model. The truck will use a 3l diesel engine with BlueTec technology (the first use of the emissions control system in a vehicle for the North American market), paired to a DUONICTM dual clutch transmission (another first for a commercial vehicle).

The design of the truck has also been updated to meet the requirements of the American customers, with the changes building on the interior and exterior design that has managed to win the Good Design Award 2010 from the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organisation (JIDPO).

Prices for the models on the North American market have not yet been announced. The trucks will, however, sell using the Canter name, unlike the products sold until now in the US.

"By launching the new Canter generation in North America, Fuso is introducing one of the most advanced and efficient light trucks in the world to the markets in the USA and Canada," said Kai-Uwe Seidenfuss, MFTBC vice president Sales & Service International.

"We have been able to boost our sales and share of the market appreciably and assume that the extremely low pollutant emissions and low running costs of the new Canter will give fresh impetus to this market." FE and FG.
