London, one of the greenest cities in the world, at least in terms of legislation meant to enforce green motoring, is about to get a bit greener starting this year, after the road maintenance contractor FM Conway receives its freshly ordered 7.5-tonne Fuso Canter BlueTec.
The company ordered no less than 31 such vehicles from Daimler, which it plans to use for a variety of tasks. The choice to go the Canter way has been made, as FM Conway Plant & Transport director Steve Hart says, thanks to the vehicles' green attributes, but not only.
“Like anyone operating in central London, we have to make sure the vehicles we run meet the LEZ emissions regulations not just now, but into the future. These Canters represent the state-of-the-art in terms of environmentally-friendly 7.5-tonne truck operation,” he said.
“Their compact dimensions are an advantage when working in narrow streets and heavy traffic, and the equipment we’ve fitted has also been carefully chosen for this application.”
The vehicles which will be delivered by Daimler this year are powered by 3.0l diesel engines which comply with both the Euro5 emission standards and with the Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle one.
The bodies of the Canters are supplied by Abba Commercials, while the hydraulic tipping gear comes from Hyva. This hardware, essential for the work conducted by FM Conway, is electrically operated, and lighter than its predecessor is.
“These Canters represent something of a departure for us but they were competitively priced and look to be perfectly specified for the job,” added Hart.
