Citroen has the 2CV, Volkswagen the Beetle and Britain the Mini. But my favorite old rust bucket from Europe is the Skoda 100.
So I was delighted to see something funny arrived in my mailbox from Slovakia today. Why Slovakia and not the Czech Republic, where Skodas are made? Because that's where a supermarket called COOP Jednota sells its merchandise.

Their latest commercial shows the old Skoda 100 arriving at a country farm and encountering parking problems. Instead of using parking sensors, the creative farmers put a cute little chick on the rear bumper.

The rear windshield is dusty, and the Skoda doesn't come with a wiper? Not a problem if you have a fluffy dog's tail to dust things off.

This video was put together by Jandl Bratislava Slovak. For extra comedic punch, it also features a cover of Iggy Pop's 1977 song The Passenger.

The commercial also talks about a rabble. If you buy at COOP Jednota worth at least 15 euros, you stand a chance to win 6 VW Golf R-Line cars, 60 Piaggio scooters and 30 bicycles. But unless you happen to live in Slovakia, that's probably not relevant for you.

To end this story, let's take a short trip down memory lane. The Skoda 100 and 110 series was produced in Mlada Boleslav from 1969 to 1977. Both models were rear-engined and rear-wheel drive, just like the original VW Beetle. This model was the first Skoda ever to exceed one million sales, and they even had rally versions that are quite famous.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
