A 34-page online brochure we swindled from Volkswagen's German website has told us the vital details that complete the picture for the 2014 model year Polo.
Sadly, the Polo is not a completely different-looking vehicle, but the engineering that has gone under the bonnet is worthy of mention.

We've already speculated about the exact specs of the Polo when a few days ago. Let's see how much of it we got right!

The 1-liter base engines have 60 or 75 PS, just like on the Up! city car. We were right in saying they would get 95 Nm of torque as well. Both also get BlueMotion versions with fuel-sipping tech. To give you an example of what this does, the 60 PS engined Polo goes from 6.4 l/100km to 5.7 l/100km.

Interestingly, we found the new 1-liter engines are actually faster than the 1.2-liter ones they replaced. A 2010 model with 60 PS did 0 to 100 km/h in 16.1 seconds, while the 2014 Polo takes 15.5 seconds, even though it's got less torque. Gear stacking is obviously to blame here.

Both 1.2 TSI turbo engines, the 90 PS and 110 PS get BlueMotion tech as standard. They have identical power and torque output to the older Polo, with the exception of the 5 PS added to the top-spec model. But fuel consumption appears to have dropped by by about a liter in the city cycle. Performance has also improved a little, as the 110 PS model reaches 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds with a 6-speed manual, compared to the 9.7 seconds of the old 105 PS model.

We can't possibly cover everything in one story, so for the full details check out our freshly added database info.
