Word has it BMW is getting ready to introduce a front-wheel drive Z2 model in 2016. We know what you’re thinking, it sounds ludicrous, but bear with us because there’s more info where that rumor came from.
According to Auto Express, a Z2 model about the size of the old Z3, but with front-wheel drive, “started to make financial sense” over at BMW. It seems that the Germans are looking to develop such a vehicle on their new modular UKL1 platform that underpins the new 2014 MINI.
Interestingly enough, the report adds that the front-wheel drive Z2 could be powered by BMW i3’s turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and a number of 2.0-liter petrol and diesel four-potters, with the range-topping version to deliver almost 300 bhp.
