From Russia With. . . Electricity - ‘El Lada’ EV Shown in Moscow

While the title may have hinted at something of a Hispanic origin, 'El Lada' is anything but, and if you thought that EV development was being done in the world’s most industrially-developed countries, you’ll be happy to know that AutoVAZ, from Russia, have made their own all-electric vehicle and are now showing it off at the Moscow International Motor Show.

The Lada Kalina-based EV has a range of 150 km (93 miles), a top speed of 130 km/h and can be charged up completely in 8 hours. A few of these will be used as taxis in Russia’s Stavropol region, in view of a possible limited series production - this is just speculation, but it is usually how these situations pan out.

We must admit to being very pleased that AutoVAZ is working on EVs, and ones which seem just as competent as the ones made by their Western competitors. Also taking into account their connection to Renault (and Nissan, implicitly), a company which has advanced knowledge of EVs, it will undoubtedly help them achieve their desired goals in the field.
