While around the globe more and more law enforcement agencies are going for electric motorcycles, the French customs, Republican Guard and more opted for the 2013 BMW R1200RT.
It may sound a bit tricky but it really isn't, if we think about escort rider services, the Gendarmerie, local Police and all. Throughout Europe, motorcycle cops are to be seen every other bigger city and they put in a lot of miles on their two-wheeled "authority" machines.
While many of them are using them for longer-distance patrolling or highway use: as cool, economical and swift electric motorcycles may be, their limited range is their biggest downside. At least until newer and better battery technologies become popular and offered for sensible costs, we're positive there will be lots of other classic-engine motorcycles sold to the law enforcement agencies.
The initial 35 2013 BMW R1200RT bikes reached the Republican Guard in April this year, with the French Customs (Douane) getting their first 20 boxers, while the remaining 190 “authority-specced” bikes to be delivered to French officials by the end of the year. They will complement the ranks of the local Police, Gendarmerie, Customs and Escort riders.
