When talking about the French law enforcement forces, it's not only La Gendarmerie who gets the job done in extreme situations. Simply mentioning the BAC would send chills down the spine of street hooligans and other types of criminals.
BAC stands for Brigade Anti-Criminalite, which translated to the Anti-Criminality Brigade, an obvious guess even if you don't speak French. BAC officers are often dressed as civilians and telling them from the mass of rioters is quite hard, at least, until they decide to act.
The video below was recorded in the French capital Paris, apparently during a period of riot. We don't have specific info as to when exactly this happened, but the video surfaced on the wire quite recently.
We can hear a lot of shouting from the many individuals in the street and it doesn't take a fine social analyst to figure out that the situation is far from what a casual night in Paris looks like.
However, the next scenes show the officers already tackling the fleeing thieves. The BAC already has batons in their hands, and they're not only threatening to use them... One of the thieves is unaware that the cops are outside the store, and when he spots them, he tries to run.
The policeman closest to him simply extends his foot, causing the thief to stumble as he was picking up speed and violently faceplant into a parked car. As the thief doesn't seem to understand that his night is over, he squirms on the ground, and the cops don't hesitate to use the batons to subdue him and turn him face down for being cuffed.
Two BAC enter the motorcycle store saying they are going to search for other thieves, as the two criminals caught stealing put their hands over their heads.
To some, the action in this video may seem a bit rough, but this is the proper response to such criminal behavior, and motorbiker seems to agree.
