Beside the many luxurious and high-power models, the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show is also hosting the first public appearance of the so-called Peugeot BB1 Concept, an uncanny model that is trying a different approach of the mini car sector. What we have here isn't a car per se, as the vehicle is based on a scooter, hence the name BB1 - it refers to a motorized bike released during the '60s.
The BB1 is a full electric vehicle that can accommodate four passengers, even if the atmosphere might get a bit too crowded inside (check the photo gallery below the article). It is 2.5 meters long and provides a different driving position as there are no pedals on the floor. Furthermore, the rear passenger is seated in tandem behind the driver, with the right front and rear seats adopting the same architecture.
The car is powered by electric motors - developed in collaboration with Michelin - installed in the rear wheels. The two engines are releasing a maximum power of 15 kW / 20 hp, or 7.5 kW per unit. This means the car can go from 0 to 30 km/h in 2.8 seconds and from 30 to 60 km/h in 4 seconds.
It is fitted with lithium-ion batteries that provides a total range of 120 km. The vehicle weight goes around 600 kilos, including the aforementioned batteries.
Last but not least, Peugeot designed, in partnership with Ocean Vital foundation, new solar panels that provide a yield of around 16 percent of energy captured and power the vehicle systems.
Other feature highlights include a color display and rear-view cameras to remove the need for mirrors.
