Frankfurt Auto Show: Jaguar XJ

Jaguar unveiled the all-new XJ at the Frankfurt Auto Show and fueled a rumor that a 1.2-liter might join the range in the near future. Since we're talking about an "all new" model, the XJ comes with several new features for both the interior and exterior.

Specifically, the car shares a very sporty look and Jaguar says the XJ is one of the most aerodynamic models ever released by the manufacturer. It has a drag coefficient of 0.29, the same figure as the XF sedan.

The new XJ provides enough room for five passengers and 125 mm of rear legroom. A panoramic roof is standard on all models, with other features including infotainment systems such as the Virtual Instrument dials and optional 1200W Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound system.

As for the engines, the XJ range will include four units, each of them optimized to the best possible fuel efficiency but without neglecting performance. The powerful supercharged 510PS 5.0-litre AJ-V8 Gen III will head the line-up, with a 0-60mph time of 4.7 secs (0-100kph in 4.9 secs); 470PS supercharged and 385PS naturally aspirated petrol V8s are also available, dependent on market, Jaguar explained.

Diesels come in the form of a 3.0-liter unit that develops 275 PS and propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. It releases 184 grams of CO2 per kilometer and achieves a fuel consumption rating of 40.1 mpg (7.04 l/100km).

“The all-new XJ re-imagines the ultimate sporting luxury car. It's beautiful, exhilarating to drive and with a bold, enlightened approach to design meets the challenges of our fast-changing world. Having it on show to the public for the first time with our other brilliant models is proof that Jaguar’s entire range lives up to our philosophy of creating beautiful, fast cars.”
Jaguar Cars Managing Director, Mike O’Driscoll said.
