Frankfurt Auto Show: Corvette ZR1 Geiger GTS

German tuners upgraded the American sportscar, resulting the Corvette ZR1 Geiger GTS, “the quickest and highest performance series vehicle ever produced by General Motors,” premiered at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA).

GeigerCars not only boosted the car's performances but also refined the Corvette’s look and brought it closer to the Gran Turismos of the 60s and 70s. The front and back were extensively modified, with a wide air vent, a massive diffuser LED semi conductive technology for the fog and rear lights.

Technical highlights of the ZR1 GTS are shadowed by the newly developed LS9 6.2 liter small block V8 engine with compressor supercharging. Thanks to the Eaton R2300 compressor with up to 0.72 bar, this engine gets up to 710 horsepower and a maximum torque of 918 Nm.

This way, the car sprints from naught to sixty in 3.6 seconds and keeps on accelerating until it reaches a top speed of 342 km/h (212 mph) . All these performances are supported by the 10 x 19 and 12 x 20 inch high performance tires mounted on light metal rims with the dimensions 285/30ZR19 at the front and 345/25ZR20 at the rear.

Furthermore, the tuners modified the braking system with 394 and 381 mm diameter carbon ceramic discs, while other technical improvements include an electronically controlled suspension “Magnetic Selective Ride Control” with track level suspension mounting. Moreover the bonnet, roof, sill, rear wing and front spoiler are made of super-light, but at the same time high-strength carbon.
