Frankfurt Auto Show: Audi S5 Sportback

The S version of Audi's recently launched A5 Sportback was unveiled today at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, becoming the high-end model of the new Sportback range. All you might expect from an S badged Audi is present in the car, including a supercharged V6 engine, the seven-speed S tronic and quattro drive.

The 3.0l engine, equipped with a mechanically driven supercharger, develops 333 hp and 440 Nm of torque, allowing the S5 to sprint from naught to sixty in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). It does this by eating as much as 9.7l/100 km (24.25 mpg).

The S5 rests on a sports-tuned chassis and S-design 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, shoed in 245/40 tires. The black brake calipers are
emblazoned with S5 emblems. Servotronic speed-sensitive steering is also standard, with dynamic steering optionally available. Exterior modifications, compared to the regular A5 Sportback, can be seen in the new front blade and diffuser, single-frame grille, air intakes and four-tailpipe exhaust system.

On the interior, the S5 features electrically adjustable S-design sport seats covered in Silk Nappa leather, white illuminated instrument cluster, leather multifunction sport steering wheel and S5 badges adorn the door sill trims, the key, the steering wheel and the instruments.

The options packages for the S5 also provide climate-controlled comfort seats, with coverings available in carbon, fine-grained birch wood and stainless steel mesh.

Market launch of the new S5 is scheduled for spring 2010, with prices to start at 57,900 euros.
