BMW sure came prepared to this year's Frankfurt Motor Show. No less than 8 world premieres took place at the BMW stand in Hall 11 this week, including the i8, i3, 4 Series and X5.
The new F15 X5 was launched through a press released earlier this year but it never actually was presented at a proper event like the 2013 IAA. Now, we got to see not one, but 4 models at their stand.

There were 2 xDrive50i models, cars that you can actually order right now online or at your dealer. One of them was dressed in Pyrite Brown Metallic, a color that is restricted only to this new model of the Bavarian SAV. Under the bonnet though, both of them have the same 450 HP and 650 Nm of torque coming out of the V8.

The second world premiere was the M50d model. This one is currently holding the world record for an inline-6 diesel engine. The 3-liter unit develops 381 HP and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque using not one, but three turbochargers. Therefore, the M50d X5 reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.3 seconds and takes only 6.7 liters of diesel for 100 km (35 mpg).

The real deal came in the form of the Concept5 eDrive X5, a car that wants to prove the versatility of the i3's drivetrain, applying it to the xDrive AWD system. This model has an electric motor that makes 90 HP and is powered by a battery packed under the floor of the luggage compartment.

It also has an internal combustion 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine at the front that develops 184 HP. The combined power of the car reaches 270 HP allowing it to return a fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100 km (62 mpg) and emit less than 90 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

At the moment, this is just a concept but it may hint at future BMW models that, even though are big, may consume less fuel than expected and be more eco friendly, allowing you to have the cake and eat it at the same time.
