The Fisker Karma was and is an ambitious project meant to get everybody's attention. The design, the feel, the powertrain, everything is meant to be perfect and it seems as the manufacturer did a decent job.
Frank Walken, the NFL player from Dallas Cowboys considers that he didn’t attract as many views as he initially thought he would. So he took his common $100,000 car and he added something that shouts “Look at me!”.
We're talking about the 24-inch wheels on his white Karma and they really look awesome. We can see in the image that he also previously tinted his windows, maybe again to improve the overall look of the car. The alloy chromed 5 spokes rims certainly set him back $4,000-$5,000, but it’s worth every dollar.
Since we mentioned the rather peculiar car, we may as well look a little closer at what it hides under the bonnet. As you may know, the Karma is a pure series hybrid, driven by a pair of 120 kW (161 hp) electric motors that receive power from a 20.1 kWh lithium-ion battery supplied by A123 Systems and/or an engine powered generator.
Up until this point, everything remains quite eco-conscious. It’s when things turn to sports mode (or when the battery is depleted) the front-mounted 260-hp, 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine starts. This too powers a generator that sends electricity directly to the drive motors. This secondary motor may feed on gasoline, but it has an electrical connection to the motors and also recharges the batteries, which means the electric engines are the only mechanical driving force connected to the wheels.
With the Tesla Model S being in the preps, we may be looking at an interesting competition nobody really knows which of the companies will win. Nevertheless, this car may turn out to atract a lot more celebrities in the years to come.
