Many of those who follow the drag racing world online wonder what drives certain owners to invest serious financial resources into Fox Body Mustangs. Well, one of the major advantages brought by these ponies has to do with the ease of repair or replacement such a chassis brings.
Drag racing crashes can be more extreme than they might seem for outsiders, with totaled racecars not being all that unusual. The latest example comes from the video below, which shows a terrifyingly powerful Fox Body Mustang hitting the wall on the side of the drag strip hard.

This is a ’Stang powered by a small block that uses nitrous to deal with competitors such as the ones the car was racing when the accident happened. We’re talking about a Viper using a twin-turbo setup that pushes the car all the way up to 1,800 hp, so, as you can imagine, things are extremely serious.

Once the driver walks away from the crash, we learn that the V8 is okay, while the guy doesn’t seem to show any concern for the rest of the car - he explains Fox Bodies can be found without even trying, so there’s no reason for him to be worried.

Sure, this youngster is a member of the Andrade family, who are known for their drag racing activity, so he also has other reasons to keep his morale from hitting the asphalt, but the point still stands.

How did the crash happen?

The Mustang and the Viper battled it out on the Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Oklahoma. This Fox Body is known for its extreme wheelstands, but this is also what brought the car’s issues.

As the vehicle came down after one of the air time moments, it broke its radiator and started leaking coolant. The Ford slipped on its own fluid and while the driver did show quick reaction, he wasn’t able to prevent the car from kissing the wall.
