While some are just trying to offer one or two fuel efficient cars in their lineup to stick with the trend, other automakers, like Toyota, made a primary target out of it.

Currently, Toyota offers four times more hybrids than any other automaker and four of its vehicles have been placed in Top 8 Most Fuel Economic Cars of 2013 by the Wall Street Cheat Sheet.

The Toyota Prius Liftback and Prius c are the most fuel efficient hybrids offered by the Japanese automaker, with an estimated combined fuel economy of 50 mpg (4.7 l/100 km), followed by the bigger Prius v with 42 mph (5.6 l/100 km). The last one, is the Scion iQ towncar, which despite its gasoline-only powertrain achieves a respectable 37 mpg (6.3 l/100 km).
