Starting in 2021, the electric revolution is set to begin for German carmaker BMW. Already tested for the past few years in various models, BMW’s electrified future will pretty much look as seen in the concept-of-sorts iNext unveiled over the past week on board a Lufthansa cargo plane.
How the iNext will look like was revealed by BMW for the rest of the world this weekend, when it dropped the curtain and showed the biggest kidney grille ever, a four-eyed look and an overall good-looking car.
“The BMW Vision iNEXT represents a new era of sheer driving pleasure,” said in a statement Harald Krüger, BMW chairman of the board. “It underlines the leading role Germany plays in the future of mobility.”
The kidney grille, as seen in the photos attached above, is blanked off, as will be on all the other electric BMWs to hit the market in the future. That’s because, of course, such cars need no cool air coming in from the front.
Guarding it are super-slim headlights and a widescreen that goes up all the way into the large panoramic roof.
The iNext has been designated by the Germans as an SAV, built on a long wheelbase to provide plenty of interior room.
The car is supposed to be autonomous when needed, which means that apart from the steering wheel and the display in front of the driver there will be no other screens and controls. The recently introduced Hey BMW feature will be controlling the car.
Unfortunately for those of you expecting more details on the technical side, BMW is tight-lipped about all that for now. After all, there are still some years until the car actually gets here.
Until that time, BMW promises several other exciting electric models. In 2019, the carmaker will be launching the electric MINI, while the production version of the Concept iX3 will be introduced in 2020.
The full, yet limited details released by BMW on the Vision iNext can be found in the document attached below.
