Lexus is known for making posh quiet sedans for middle-aged men, but that changed last year with the brand’s 180-degree turn towards unconventional design targeting young people. That also came with a bonus which materialized through a new luxury coupe.
In fact, the company really needed a coupe since the LFA went out of production in 2012 and the IS C never got any reputation for sporty abilities. As a result the stunning looking Lexus LF-CC concept made its debut in 2012 which inspired two new vehicles - the 2014 IS sedan and 2015 RC coupe.

Lexus did a wonderful job for both models which share a lot of design elements with the original concept, managing to create two worthy rivals for the BMW 3 Series sedan and 4 Series coupe.

However, Lexus is lagging a bit behind the German automaker which is now crazy on filling every possible niche in its segment and already offers a four-door version of its 4 Series coupe. Or is it?

You see, when BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi started to make smaller and cheaper cars to fill in niches, Lexus decided not to. The company said the CT 200h was as low as they could go in order not to damage the luxury brand’s image.

So we expect Lexus to remain rebel and don’t go with the flock by making a four-door RC version too soon. Sales are not booming now, with the brand addressing a narrow segment of the market (people that can see past German luxury) so investing in a new model is not quite a good idea.

The four-door Lexus RC looks nice on paper, but the automaker can’t afford more experiments right now. Massive spindle grilles and L-shaped lights will do for now.
