FOTA to Vote Against KERS for 2010

The dispute between the FIA and the Formula One Teams Association seems to be getting more irreconcilable by the hour, as the team's body has now expressed their wish to ban the FIA-beloved Kinetic Energy Recovery System at the end of this season. As it turns out, this will be another demand by the FOTA in their conditional entry for next year's championship.

With Williams and Force India no longer part of the voting equation – as the two teams were suspended from the organization during the past two weeks – the majority of the teams still with the FOTA don't agree with investing more money into a technology that is yet to prove itself in the sport.

Renault's Flavio Briatore was the first to issue such a demand a few months ago, but it wasn't until now that he gained the support of other teams. Toyota are a feverish supporter of the ban, much like Brawn GP and the two Red Bull-backed teams, RBR and Toro Rosso.

In addition, it seems the other teams that already benefit from the unit this year – Ferrari, McLaren and BMW Sauber – are no longer that keen on continuing to develop their units. Although they have used their veto right to stop such a ban at the end of last year, BMW have admitted they will now go with the majority.

We have voted in favor of KERS but, as in all the FOTA decisions before, we will go with the majority,” revealed BMW's motorsport director Mario Theissen.

During the Turkish Grand Prix last weekend, it was only Ferrari and McLaren who used the aforementioned unit. BMW are currently developing a new version of the unit, likely to be implemented during the upcoming British Grand Prix, at Silverstone.
