What the teams' representatives are now aiming at is convincing the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to postpone the May 29 deadline for submitting applications for a 2010 entry. The FOTA reportedly sent a letter to FIA president Max Mosley the other weekend, signed by all teams, in which they particularly asked for more time to evaluate the options for 2010.
“We decided to indicate to president Mosley the points that still must be clarified. The important thing is that it was signed by the representatives of all the teams; I hope Max Mosley realizes this, our unity. We will see what happens,” revealed Renault's boss Flavio Briatore in an interview for Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
Earlier this week, he also expressed his amazement towards the FIA deadline, as the traditional term by which the F1 teams were asked to submit their applications for the upcoming season was in September.
As for FOTA's unity, the very concept of having a single direction in their relationship with the FIA took a blow only days after the Monaco get-togethers, as it was Williams F1 who broke the deal and submitted their application for a 2010 F1 entry earlier this week. As several reports show, McLaren, Force India and Brawn GP are on their way to doing the same, therefore turning the FOTA letter into a useless sheet of paper.
It seems the constructors are infuriated with the deal-breakers, this being another topic to be discussed by the FOTA representatives during their London meeting.
