FOTA Blames Incompetent FIA for Leaked Data in Crash-Gate

Not only the International Automobile Federation (FIA), but also the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) today revealed disappointment over the leaked information from the Renault dossier in the recent crash-gate.

Nelsinho Piquet's letter to the FIA – in which he fully explains what happened during the Singapore weekend in 2008 – some telemetry information during the 2008 race, as well as Flavio Briatore's letter to Piquet Sr. prior to the unveiling of the whole scandal were only a few information appeared on the internet yesterday afternoon.

After Max Mosley initially slammed the leaking process and insisted that it poses a big threat to the judging process by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), the FOTA also claims the information that made the internet may lead some persons already to issue personal verdicts on the matter. Keep in mind that Renault's side has never been heard until now.

"FOTA today express concern at the leakage of information, which may or may not be relevant to the FIA current enquiry into the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. All parties to the dispute should have the right to a fair hearing carried out in private and not in the public arena, which is producing adverse publicity damaging to the corporate image and credibility of Formula 1,” said the FOTA statement.

"FOTA believes that differences within the sport should be handled in professional manner and condemns the habit of intentionally releasing confidential documents to influence public opinion. Confidential documents should remain under the control of the competent authority,” added the press release.

The information from the Renault dossier is believed to have leaked while being transferred to the WMSC for a closer look.
