When was the last time you attached snow chains to your car? We have to admit that, no matter how much practice you get, the process remains less than pleasant. But what if this winter aid was fitted to a Formula One car?
No, this is not a rhetorical question. The idea is as real as they get, with the video below showing Red Bull's Max Verstappen engaging in what can be described as a winter training session on snow chains.
The weapon of choice was Red Bull's RB7, the car that brought the title to the team after the 2011 season.
We'll remind you that we are talking about the Great Circus' youngest driver here, with Verstappen currently being 18.
The driver used the occasion to gather some rather bespoke experience behind the wheel of the RB7. Not only was this a uber-rare occasion but the logistics of the event were on the complicated side.
The feat took place at the famous Streif ski slope in Kitzbuhel, Austria, but don't expect the racecar to have simply been unloaded off a truck and thrown at the snow and ice present at the location. Oh no.
Instead, the RB7 had to be airlifted by helicopter to the starting point of the ski course before the action could begin. As for the rubber, Pirelli supplied special tires, which were then gifted with the chains mentioned above.
Sure, Red Bull could've used a more modern touch, going for snow socks, but we doubt the impact would've been the same.
The action is offered to us in the form of the video below, but we can't pretend everything's perfect, invite you to hit the "play" button and call it a day.
Perhaps in an effort to come up with a clip that follows the spectacular fashion we've learned to associate with productions coming from Red Bull (we expect the slippery, bumpy conditions to have affected the speed), the team that put the video together turned to oddball-grade editing that makes the video difficult to follow - the challenge awaits you.
P.S.: Perhaps the on-board video at the bottom of the page can help.
