In a recent interview for the City AM newspaper, Formula 1 boss, Bernie Eccleston apparently said that he wouldn't be surprised if BMW returned to Formula 1.
According to him, the Bavarian company didn't invest too much in the sport and could very easily make a comeback, with or without their last partners, the Sauber team.
“I think they could come in. The amount of money they spent was not significant in the grand scheme of things. It makes sense for them to return,” said Ecclestone in his interview.
Of course, this move would please Ecclestone, as it would mean extra investments, extra profits and more profits but it's highly unlikely to happen though. The reason for the retirement of the BMW Sauber Team from Formula 1 was the economic downturn.
Profits have risen lately but an effort for the biggest motorsport scene in the world would be too big to be worth the possible gains. The DTM is enough at the moment, and wins are pouring in from the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.
