Former Super Aguri Tech Boss to Build 2011 Car for HRT F1?

Until Hispania Racing F1 Team finds the proper investors to keep its business alive in the 2011 Formula One championship, team owner Jose Ramon Carabante first needs to address a more important issue: securing a car for the upcoming campaign in the Great Circus.

As their initial partnership with Dallara did not go as planned (and that's an understatement, considering that the Dallara-built HRT F1 car in 2010 has been the most expensive from all cars belonging to newly-entered teams), Hispania ended it midway through last season. Additionally, their projected deal with Toyota Motorsport GmbH went wrong a few weeks back, leaving the Spanish squad without a single chassis supplier for next year.

According to Spanish website f1aldia.com, it seems that problem is about to find its solution in the next few days, with UK based company Formtech Composites apparently willing to step in and do the job.

Formtech Composites is a company that specializes in supplying components to several F1 teams, while also owning the intellectual property of the defunct Arrows team, and is headed by former Super Aguri technical boss Mark Preston.

Back when the Super Aguri team went bankrupt – at the beginning of the 2008 season – Preston managed to gather some investors around him and purchased the assets of the former F1 squad. According to a report from the GMM news agency, Formtech has actually built and run an F1 chassis to current specifications based on the 2006 Super Aguri car.

Formtech ... would fit perfectly with Hispania to provide the resources they might need,” Preston was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source, while hinting that committing to such a project (building an F1 car with less than 90 days to go until the official start of the 2011 season) will not be a problem for his company.

If we were able to launch Super Aguri in just 100 days, then almost anything is possible,” he added.
