The C7 Corvette is already the most popular sportscar in America by a country mile, but the guys at Forgiato have just made it even better with a brand new active grille. At the press of a button, the vertical bars swing to the side, completely enclosing the front. When they're in the normal position, they make the Stingray look a little bit a lot like the Maserati Levante coupe, which is high praise for any ride.

Forgiato is a world-renowned wheel maker, the go-to place for many rappers, athletes and entrepreneurs looking for a custom look with street cred'. But they also make custom body parts, including a widebody kit for this Corvette and other carbon fiber goodies. Last year, they introduced a new grille for the Camaro that comes with "eyelids" that open and close, covering the headlights.

"The function of the Active Grille System is to divert airflow away from the engine compartment, forcing it to travel around the hood and fenders. This results in a less restrictive path, reducing vehicle lift and aerodynamic drag. Diverting air around the vehicle has shown to improve fuel efficiency," Forgiato says about it latest grille design.

Interestingly, the system can also work in combination with engine mapping software, using this to determine the amount of air flow through the grille. There's also a "Demo Mode" for showing off the next Cars and Coffee.

The Corvette active grille isn't quite ready to go on sale yet, as it's still pending patent approval. However, it will work for all 2014 and 2015 model year Stingrays, including the convertibles. How much will it cost? They won't say yet, but expect at least $5,000. While that sounds like a lot, consider that a widebody Corvette retails for around $150,000.
