Ask any petrolhead, any real petrolhead. The Fast and the Furious Series has nothing more to offer to automotive enthusiasts, as it has strayed away from its origins and moved towards a mainly action focused franchise. But the people who have grown up with the Fast and the Furious and have further gone down that road are still around.
If you'll talk to any hardcore petrolhead, you'll probably hear that the last Fast and the Furious movie that actually sparked some interest was Tokyo Drift. Because let's be honest, that was the last one actually revolving around the world of cars. Anything beyond that has just been a bitter disappointment for us.
But we aren't going to be mad at the series, as it played its part. It sparked the love of fast cars and tuning them for most kids in our generation, and even though it further sought profit instead of harnessing that automotive passion, the fire was ignited.
Those kids grew up, but there was a void left in the movie industry when it comes to fast cars and heart pumping action. Sure, there have been a few attempts like the Need for Speed movie, or that Baby Driver one, but in the eyes of petrolheads, those were harshly judged and frowned upon.
But about 7 years ago, there was word of a Norwegian movie, that featured some very interesting cars, called Børning. Albeit not in English, the movie had sort of a Cannonball/Gumball vibe to it, the cars were great, the action was there, and there was even some fun to be had. The second one saw some even more interesting cars, and even a few pro drivers getting involved, and it was equally as good.
And now, it seems like the franchise is back at it again, under the name Asphalt Burning, basically the third instalment of the series. The hero of the movie, Roy, is once again behind the wheel of his 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, but it seems now the car has had some serious upgrades done to it! The film is now available on Netflix, and judging by the trailer, it should be an exciting one to say the least, especially seeing that this time they're moving away from the icy roads of Norway, and over into Germany, on the Nurburgring!
