Ford today revealed its new-found focus for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show that’s to take place next week. It will not be just that awesome concept we saw, but also a pair of ultra-fuel efficient versions of the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta. Both these ECOnetic models will arrive in Europe in mid-2012 as part of a broader strategy to roll out more green technologies across its line-up under the Blue Oval’s green technology badge.
Forget everything you know about hybrids, Ford is installing the first lean NOX adsorbing technology in a Ford diesel. The Focus achieves 89 g/km, and the new Fiesta ECOnetic Technology, the first Fiesta with Auto-Start-Stop technology, delivers 87g/km.
The Focus will be able to travel 100 kilometres on 3.4 litres of fuel (83.1 mpg UK), giving credit to Ford’s claims that it’s the most fuel efficient non-hybrid family car (C segment) in Europe. The Fiesta meanwhile can travel 100 kilometres on 3.3 litres of fuel (85.6 mpg UK).
“The Focus and Fiesta ECOnetic Technology will deliver stunning fuel economy and still be fun to drive – a combination that would have seemed impossible a few years ago,” said Dr. Thilo Seibert, manager, Sustainability and Electrification Strategy, Ford of Europe.
The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show will also see the Focus model that’s powered by the new new 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which delivers “both impressive fuel efficiency and surprising performance due to direct fuel injection and turbocharging,” according to the manufacturer.
