Ford Will Offer Payment Protection

Following in the footsteps of Hyundai US and AutoNation, Ford Motor decided to introduce its own payment protection program for new car buyers who are unfortunate enough to get fired due to the massive personal cutbacks that are looming in the horizon, just-auto.com reported.

Called the "Advantage Plan", Ford's program provides a 12 month payment protection (six months longer than AutoNation) of up to $700 for any new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle, zero percent financing on some models and additional local charity support.

"Consumers remain anxious about the economy and their own outlook for the future. We at Ford want to do our part to rebuild faith in the marketplace by offering payment protection on every new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle for up to a year if our customers lose their jobs," Ken Czubay, sales and marketing chief was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

Ford will work with its dealers on implementing the program, which includes a package destined to local charities who suffered because of the economic decline.

"Just as important is additional charity support we will provide in conjunction with our local dealers, who are mindful of how non-profit organizations are struggling during this economic downturn," added the official.

Seeing past this facade of good will (charity actions aside), we already said such programs only look helpful. No one is to say what will happen if a customer will still be out of a job when the year ends and he is unable to pay for his car.
