Ford Wants To Come Up With a Chevrolet Bolt EV Competitor

Chevrolet jumped on the EV bandwagon for some time now but arch-rivals Ford are not going to just sit and watch. In fact, recent rumors are saying that Bolt will receive a worthy competitor.

As it usually happens with rumors, information is very scarce but some voices are stating that Ford is looking at the possibility of launching an all-electric model this year in order to prevent them from falling behind General Motors.

As you know by now, Chevrolet has already announced that the Bolt EV received production approval with work scheduled to begin late in 2015, at the Orion Assembly factory near Detroit.

If speculation is true, Ford’s new EV will make sure the rivalry between the two companies breaks loose from the pony car, muscle car and pick-up segments and takes greener roads in the near future. In that respect, the Blue Oval should at least come up with an electric vehicle capable of offering a range of around 200 miles.

In this case, the party would get three players, as Tesla will make a move regarding an affordable all-electric car – called Model 3 – after its Model X will hit the market. The Fiasco is even bigger since Chevrolet is saying that the new Bolt EV will cost around $30,000, whereas Tesla’s Model 3 is reportedly going to have a price tag of $40,000. So in this case, where would Ford fit?

Anyway, the EV world is under a thick layer of fog right now, as Google and Apple share new ambitions in building their own autonomous, electric prototypes which only makes things harder to sort out. On a more subjective note, we can see only one winner in this race, which should be Tesla Motors, but rough competition is the path to progress and this is the EV world's most pressing need at the moment. In other words, carmakers need to start making more electric cars to compete against each other.
