As much as we dislike writing about recalls, the Takata airbag scandal is here to stay and develop epic proportions. Also, we can't even imagine what it's like to own a car affected by the issue, especially when Ford alone has recalled 1.5 million cars over this problem.
Takata's days in the automotive industry could be numbered, but that's not for us to decide. However, the massive number of vehicles and more important, customers affected by the company's faulty airbags are not easy to overlook.

Just ask Ford about it. The Blue Oval had to recall 1,509,535 vehicles to date, and the forecast is not showing signs of improvement.

The extended recall campaign came as a result of Takata's notification to the U.S. NHTSA last week, and we've got to hand it to you, some big names in Ford's line-up are hit by the malfunction, as you can see below:

2005-2014 Ford Mustang vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant for driver side airbag inflators;
2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles built at Wixom Assembly Plant for driver side airbag inflators;
2004 Ford Ranger models built in North America at Edison Assembly Plant and
2004-2006 Ford Ranger trucks made at Twin Cities Assembly for passenger side airbag inflators.

We knew about some Ford GT models affected by the airbag malfunction from last year, but now more Mustangs join the recall club along with 2005 and 2006 Ford Rangers.

So far, a driver’s leg was injured by a metal fragment when the airbag deployed after a crash, which looks like an incident connected to the faulty airbags. This is also the only event of such kind Ford is aware of at the moment.

Customers who want to know if their vehicle is included in these recalls can visit www.ford.com and click on safety recalls at the bottom of the page, and then enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
