Ford Transit Electric LEAD Program Complete

The roll out of the first batches of the Ford Transit Electric vehicles next year to selected customers its entering the final leg, after the company behind the electric drive train fitted on the model, Azure Dynamics, announced the completion of the customer list.

In all, ten companies or organizations will accept and test the Transit. The final two, a Washington based governmental organization and a logistics company (the latter placed the biggest order for Transit EVs, asking for no less than 20 units), have been brought on board this week. To date, 150 electric versions of the Transit have been ordered.

"These final two customers are well known organizations that are enthusiastic about their Transit Connect Electric acquisition, but prefer to make the announcement at a future point," said Scott Harrison, Azure Dynamics CEO.

"The final two represent the government and commercial sectors and they are exactly the type of blue-chip organizations we had in mind when we created the LEAD program."

As you already know, the electric version of the Transit is based on the long wheelbase Connect. The electric commercial vehicle is equipped with a battery electric drive train, already tested on some 40 vehicle integrations, which is capable of giving the vehicle a range of 130 km or 80 miles on a full charge.

"We believe that our LEAD customers will become key product advocates," added Harrison. "We've identified the next wave of potential customers and are eager to begin our broader sales efforts to encourage other proactive, conscientious fleets to join the ranks of our LEAD Transit Connect Electric customers."
