Ford to Retract from News of the World Advertising

Ford has pulled the plug on its advertising for the UK newspaper News of the World, followed closely by fellow manufacturer Mitsubishi. The British tabloid has been accused of hacking into the voicemails of the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, and the incident is not singular as there have been reported several complaints regarding high-profile celebrities and people in the media that had their voicemails hacked by the publication.

Along with Ford and Mitsubishi, came npower, Halifax, T-mobile and Orange which are the first companies to announce such action as the pressure increased on both the newspaper and those who advertise in its pages.

”Ford is a company which cares about the standards of behaviour of its own people and those it deal with externally,”
an official company statement read. The manufacturer confirmed that it has planned to use “alternative media whithin and outside news International group instead of placing Ford advertising in the News of the World”

Mitsubishi was the second car manufacturer to pull away after Ford. The carmaker confirmed the withdrawing of its advertising on the redtop newspaper, and the UK managing director lance Bradley was reported as saying on his Twitter account that they are "withdrawing all advertising.”

The official press office feed put in a more official manner, confirmed that the Japanese company is doing the same as Ford and it's still waiting for the results of the investigations regarding the paper’s actions. The Japanese manufacturer’s position was that: ”Mitsubishi has now suspended its NotW media while the papre’s being investigated regarding the Milly Dowler phone hacking accusations.”
