Ford to Invest $773 Million in Southeast Michigan Plants

While Ford’s European operation is really shaky, and production is being cut, along with a large percentage of their workforce on the Old Continent, the US side of the business is doing great. Blue Oval officials have announced that they will be investing some $773 million, throughout their southeast Michigan manufacturing facilities, in order to support growth.

With the large investment, they will bring about the creation of 2,350 new hourly jobs, while allowing them to keep an additional 3,240 such jobs. The announcement for the investment comes as part of a much bigger plan, through which Ford is planning to invest a total of $6.2 billion in its US plants, by 2015.

The operation will be carried out over the next six months, when they will be upgrading their stamping operations at the Michigan Assembly Plant and Dearborn Stamping Plant, as well as finishing off their work at the Flat Rock plant, which is being prepped for complete Fusion production.

“Even as we wrap up an incredibly busy year of capacity expansions and product launches, we are continuing to look to the future," says Jim Tetreault, Vice President of North America Manufacturing. "These investments, many of which are already under way, will ensure our southeast Michigan manufacturing facilities can support our aggressive growth plans."
