Apparently, the demand for Ford’s small Fiesta-based MPV, the B-Max, is not as high as company officials had hoped, so much so that they have apparently announced a reduction of the daily production output at their Romanian plant, in Craiova, from 500 cars per day, to 250 cars per day.
This means that instead of building 60,000 units by the end of the year, they will only manage about half of what they had originally planned. According to a Bucharest-based newspaper, Ziarul Financiar, an unnamed official stated that: “Ford is rebalancing its production operation in Craiova, to meet the actual needs of the European market. Following the launch of the new B-Max, the plant will move to a one-shift work schedule.

However, instead of sending all the workers home, Ford has added another shift to the adjacent engine production facility, and all the workers will be able to continue working there. However, the news has affected local suppliers, with Magna Interiors and Exteriors announcing that it will fire 17 of its 117 locally-employed workers.

This news comes only one month after the B-Max officially went into production in Romania.
