The aid includes weekend food backpacks, holiday food packages or holiday meals. On December 3, on Ford Accelerated Action Day, meals will be distributed at about 30 agencies.
The food will be distributed with the help of the Ford Motor Company Fund and Ford Volunteer Corps. Feeding America and its affiliate food banks, as well as other organizations, have been brought on board to support the effort.
“Along with our community partners, we are committed to the possibility of every family having enough to eat,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “This season is a reminder of the privilege we all have to get involved and make a difference.”
Ford will tie the food distribution program to one meant for the schools in the region. The carmaker announced an online competition which will run from November 25 to December 12, aimed at the students from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County high schools.
Those taking part in the competition will have a shot at a school-wide pizza party and funds for school supplies. All they have to do is build a Ford Explorer from cans and non-perishable packaged food items. More details about this competition can be found at the following link.
