Ford Teases New Global Vehicle to Debut in India: EcoSport SUV?

Right, the title is about as much as we officially know right now, so we have a mystery on our hand. Ford might be focusing on the Detroit Auto Show coming up in January, but it also has something for the overlapping 2012 Indian Auto Expo taking place in Delhi.
This vehicle is supposed to be a global product, so the fact that they are showing it in India instead of Detroit might mean that it’s not coming to the States. Our original guess was a concept version of next Ka compact, but that has too many premium qualities and this teaser image shows too much muscle to be a sub-compact.

Upon closer inspection of a list of Ford expected to debut in India next year, we found a very interesting little
contender. It’s called the EcoSport SUV and we can even show you what is believed to be a picture of the small off-roader snagged by IndianCarsBikes from an under-construction version of Ford India’s website.

The photos show a strong resemblance to the old version of the Kuga, which might mean a different look will be available in Europe. There have been numerous sightings and reports of a Fiesta-based SUV, and this appears to be it. According to some leaked info, it will even be powered by the new 1.0-liter EcoBoost 3-cylinder engine from the B-MAX. This will provide either 100 or 125 horsepower and should replace naturally aspirated 1.6-liter units. On the diesel front, the compact SUV will likely offer a 1.5-liter TDCI... in India at least.
