Now that the latest sales figures have finally been published, it seems that 2015 was Ford’s year. The Detroit-based carmaker set a new record in China sales, as it sold no less than 1,115,124 vehicles throughout the year. December turned out to be an excellent month for Ford, with 124,768 cars sold during the period, up 27 percent compared to 2014.
Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), Ford’s passenger car joint venture, takes the crown, having sold no less than 836,425 units in 2015, seven percent more than in 2014. CAF also broke the record in December when sales reached 96,960 vehicles, an increase of 49 percent compared to the last month of 2014.

According to the figures, the Ford Mondeo was the best-sold car by CAF. Annual sales totaled 113,990 sedans, eight percent more than in 2014. In December, the joint venture sold 13,995 vehicles, up 42 percent compared to December 2014.

The demand was high for SUVs too in 2015, as sales for the Kuga, Ecosport, Edge, Explorer and Everest surpassed the quarter million mark for the first time, with 274,188 cars sold. The last month of 2015 was Ford’s strongest to date for SUV sales, with 32,290 vehicles sold, an increase of 56 percent compared to December 2014.

Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford’s commercial vehicle investment in China, didn’t do so well, though, and although it delivered 253,359 cars to its customers, it was down six percent compared to 2014. Santa Claus didn’t bring gifts to JMC, as it sold only 26,391 vehicles, down 12 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. These negative figures show continued weakness in the overall commercial vehicle industry.

John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China, stated that "2015 was another strong year for Ford in China with growth in sales and our product portfolio." He continued by saying, "Our record performance sets the stage for 2016, as we continue to expand our portfolio of high-quality, fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles that our customers want and need."

Ford Motor Company had a very good year in the US too, where the company’s total 2015 sales are its best annual results in nine years. Ford Brand sales make Ford America’s best- selling brand for six straight years and the F-Series America’s best-selling pickup for 39 consecutive years and the best-selling vehicle for 34 straight years.
