Ford Says 2015 Mustang Could Have Been a Hatchback

Believe it or not, the 2015 Ford Mustang could have been a hatchback. At least that's what Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak said during a recent interview with Car & Driver, adding that the team even considered a notchback body.
"We talked about a hatchback, briefly. A notchback was explored, like the Fox Body, but this was almost like nostalgia," said Pericak. "Setting the tone for what we wanted to do with Mustang and the new customers that we're going after, it just wasn't the right thing to do," he added.

We really can't wrap our heads around a hatchback design for the Mustang (anyone care to try rendering one?), but we're more than happy it didn't happen. In fact, we hope that "brief" idea was nothing more than one of those silly moments when the wise guy got slapped in the back of his head.
