Scott Monty is pretty well known in the world of corporate digital communications for leading the Blue Oval's Global Digital Communications team for almost six years. However, the social media guru announced it will leave Ford for an undisclosed job elsewhere.
Ranked by Forbes as one of the top 10 influencers in social media and dubbed by the industry as "the best corporate social media lead on the planet", Scott announced the resignment on his personal blog: "This may come as a bit of a shock in some circles, but I've left Ford Motor Company. I will be pursuing something else - the subject of another announcement that I'll make soon."
Monty has been a very valuable asset for the Ford Motor Company in terms of digital communications. He was the mastermind behind the first ever reveal of a vehicle on Facebook - the 2010 Ford Explorer, the first brand in the world to join Google+ and a number of other noteworthy social media activities.
In an interview with Adweek, the former Ford social media chief declared "I just decided the time was right. I am going to take a little time with my family, and I am going to start on a new adventure pretty soon. I'll have more to say about that in the coming weeks."
When asked about how he sees the world of social media after six years of continuous efforts at the Ford Motor Company, Scott says that it saddens him how this medium has become a mass advertising channel, straying from its relationship development roots.
According to Ford spokesperson Susan Krusel, Scott Monty's duties will be taken over by Angie Kozleski.
