"This is a great day for Ford Motor Company, our Craiova manufacturing facility, and for Romania," said Stephen Odell, CEO Ford of Europe. "This is a world-class facility building two of Ford’s most advanced products – the Ford B-MAX and the 2012 International Engine of the Year, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine – to the highest quality levels for our customers."
Besides the 1.0-liter EcoBoost, Ford has announced it has plans to build another engine in Romania, a 1.5-liter petrol unit that will enter production next year.

The first car to roll off the line in Romania was bought by the country’s president Traian Basescu, who attended the official event.

When it goes on sale in Europe in September, the B-MAX will come with the new 1.0-liter Ford EcoBoost engine available as alternatives to the normally aspirated 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter units. This is available in two stages of tune, namely the 100PS and 125PS. The engine range will of course include some equally frugal Duratorq TDCi diesels.

The list of standard features will include body colour bumpers, adjustable load floor in luggage compartment, adjustable driver’s seat, rake- and reach-adjustable steering wheel, fold flat front passenger seat, one hand one motion fold flat rear seats, electrically-operated door mirrors and one-touch windows, centre rear seat head restraint, remote central locking, Ford Easy Fuel capless refuelling system, low tyre pressure Deflation Detection System, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Intelligent protection System with front, side, knee and curtain airbags.

Production of the B-MAX starts less than a month after the Ecoboost 1.0-liter, seen here being put together in Germany.
This has recently won an Engine of the Year 2012 award.
The B-MAX marks he European debut of the Ford SYNC system.
