With Ford Australia set to close its doors in 2016, the beloved Falcon sedan is about two years away from getting the axe.
Killing the Falcon will also put an end to a very important era in Ford's history, which means that the company is likely to end production with a limited edition model.

A new high-performance Falcon XR8 model has already been confirmed by Ford last year, but a recent report suggests that won't be the last Falcon to be built before production ends.

According to Drive, the Ford Performance Vehicles division is planning on reviving the 351 moniker as a limited edition Falcon GT. The model is reportedly in the final phase of development and will go on sale in June, right before the FPV division will be officially shut down.

Built to celebrate the iconic Bathurst-winning Falcon GT of the 1970s, the 351 edition will be powered by a V8 engine updated to deliver... 351 kW (477 horsepower). That's 16 kW (22 hp) more than the current Falcon GT.

The souped up vehicle will be the fastest Falcon yet and will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 4.7 seconds.

Ford Performance Vehicles is rumored to build 500 units of the 351 limited edition Falcon.
