Ford Recalls MY 2009 Expedition, Navigator

Ford, the only member of the Detroit Three who's still in business without government help, announced it is recalling 1,357 model year 2009 Expedition and Navigation models in the United States because a stop lamp might work improperly. According to a notification posted on the official website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall only affects 2009 Ford Expedition and Navigator, with around 1357 units affected.

"Ford is recalling 1,357 model year 2009 Expedition and Navigator vehicles for failing to comply with the federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108 'Lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment,'"
it is mentioned in the advisory.

"The brake stop lamp switch may be improperly adjusted," it added. The first consequence of such a glitch is that it could "result in a delay in brake stoplamp illumination when the brake pedal is depressed. In situations of very mild brake application, the brake stoplamps may not illuminate."

Not quite a huge problem you think? Well, just imagine a scenario in which you're driving at night a car with no brake stoplamps. Does this sound major enough for you? Even the NHTSA admits the "delay or loss of brake stoplamp function may increase the risk of a crash," so just take notice and got your car checked.

And because we're talking about service checks, dealers will adjust the brake stop lamp switch to be sure everything works as it should. In case you're wondering, all operations are conducted at no charge. Recalls are expected to commence on July 6, 2009, with owners advised to contact Ford Motor Company or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline.
