Ford Ranger Wildtrak Breaks Cover

The Ranger is back, and it will be coming to the Geneva Auto Show this week with a new, worked body, new power trains and an array of features the American auto maker describes as being “high-tech.” Meant for the markets which would get a headache if using the likes of the F-Series, the new Ranger will be offered later this year with a choice of two common-rail Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, a 2.2l four-cylinder and a new 3.2l 5-cylinder unit. The smaller of the couple will offer customers craving for a bit of pick-up action 150 ps and 375 Nm of torque, while the more potent unit will release a 200 ps troop and 470 Nm of torque. The Ranger Wildtrack hopes to win the non-American customers by offering a wide range of safety and infotainment features as well, a range which starts with essentials like ESP and ends with the less so Bluetooth voice control. Drawn in the Ute homeland, Australia, the Ranger will hit the markets from factories in Thailand, South Africa and Argentina as the first commercial vehicle to be built under the One Ford strategy. The model will be offered, for prices yet to be announced, in three different cab body styles, 4x2 and 4x4 drive trains, two ride heights and up to four series choices. Before we forget... Ford plans to make the Ranger an unbeatable competitor in its segment, throwing it into the battle with some killer figures: towing capability of up to 3,350 kg, 800 mm water-wading capability and 230 mm ground clearance. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
