Revealed at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show alongside the Volkswagen Tarok, the Ranger Storm is half workhorse, half off-road truck. The mid-size pickup comes with capital letters on the front grill and one too many badges.
Even though the Ford Motor Company refers to the Ranger Storm as a concept, it appears to us that Ford is fishing for reactions from the Latin American market about original accessories. The snorkel and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli MTR Scorpion all-terrain tires kick off the list of modifications, along with the sports bar, roof rails, matte tailgate appliqué, and smoked taillights.

The honeycomb mesh insert and ice-cube fog lights are unique to this concept, along with the lower part of the front bumper. To bring the point home even more, the silver-painted skid plates are complemented by additional cladding on the fender flares. As the badge on the base of the snorkel reveals, the beating heart of the Ranger Storm is the 3.2-liter Duratorq TDCI inline-five turbo diesel.

This engine is capable of 200 PS and 470 Nm, sending all that suck-squeeze-bang-blow to the wheels by means of a six-speed automatic transmission. The Ranger Raptor, on the other hand, has more ponies and torque from 2.0 liters of displacement and four cylinders, as well as the 10-speed automatic transmission from the F-150 Raptor.

It’s not clear whether Ford plans to put this concept into production in Latin America. The Ranger Wildtrak with some accessories from the official catalog gets the job done as well, if not better than the Ranger Storm. More or less a rush job that came to fruition for the sake of exhibiting something at the Brazilian motor show, Ford also forgot to upgrade the suspension system.

Adding insult to injury, the current generation of the Ranger is celebrating its seventh anniversary in 2018, also known as a lifetime if you're the Volkswagen Group. Come on, Ford; you can do better than this!
