Because of the function they are meant to perform, police cars should at least look menacing. Unfortunately, with a few glorious exceptions, they are not so. Often times they are selected based on a variety of factors that have nothing to do with performance.
Take the UK, for instance. The island has around 50 police forces that use a wide range of vehicles, most of them dull-looking and not at all the performance monsters criminals would hate to see in the rearview mirror.

Most of the cars deployed by the British police are Vauxhall-branded, but if you look hard enough, you can also spot some Peugeot’s and Fords. Try as you might tough, you will never find anything as aggressive as the SUVs or muscle cars used across the ocean in America.

That might change though, provided Ford manages to convince law enforcement there to go with the newly-unveiled Ranger Raptor police pickup truck.

Currently under testing as part of the South Wales Police force, the pickup has been fitted with all the required looks and tools for police work by Ford’s Special Vehicle Preparation team in Essex.

Available with FOX shock absorbers and supplied with the Baja desert race mode as standard, the Raptor looks particularly dashing in the blue-and-yellow colors it boasts, and it would surely be a frightening sight to behold in the by running criminals.

Introduced as the company’s first mid-size pickup in 2018, the Ranger Raptor now offers two engine versions, one diesel and one gasoline, with outputs of up to 270 hp, and off-road performances similar to the ones of the bigger, meaner F-150.

For now, Ford did not say if it plans on making the Raptor police car part of its offering, but given the fact the pickup is tested alongside a police-version Focus ST estate (previous generations of it are already deployed across the UK), that might turn out to be the case after all.
