For the first time ever, Europeans got a first taste of what the Ford Ranger Raptor is all about. The car was presented on Tuesday in Cologne, Germany, during the Old Continent’s largest gaming event, Gamescom.
The good news is that Europeans will not be left with just this one taste. Ford announced it plans to sell the car there starting 2019, with all the Ford Performance tweaking that comes with the package. Until the market launch, fans will be able to experience the Raptor in the virtual world, as part of the Forza Horizon 4 video racing game.
For the European market, the Ranger Raptor will come equipped with the bi-turbo 2.0liter EcoBlue diesel engine, capable of delivering 213 ps and 500 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to the carmaker’s new 10-speed automatic transmission, the same as on the F-150 Raptor.
Being purpose-engineered for rough terrain, the Ranger Raptor will be using race-bred suspension with FOX shock absorbers and Position Sensitive Damping. All-terrain BF Goodrich 285/70 R17 tires, purpose-produced for the model, connect the car to the ground in one of six possible all-terrain configurations.
The vehicle presented in Germany features a few visual updates as well, including a new grille inspired by the F150 Raptor, and flared composite front fenders.
At the interior, the bolstered seats are specially designed for high-speed off-road support. The paddle shifters are in magnesium, while the steering wheel features an on-center marker to help drivers keep track of wheel position off-road.
“Forget everything you think you know about pick-ups,” said in a statement Leo Roeks, Ford Performance Director, Europe.
“Our new Ranger Raptor is a different breed – a thoroughbred desert racer and extreme lifestyle off-roader that can toil with the best of them in the harshest of working conditions.”
