Ford’s supercharged Cobra Jet Mustang is just about ready to retire after the 2014 model year, as the Blue Oval is preparing to launch the sixth-generation musclecar. However, the 2014 dragstrip-prepped pony will survive beyond its last year thanks to Ford Racing, who has announced the availability the supercharged Cobra Jet mill as a crate engine.
Listed as part #M-6007-SCJ14, the V8 powerplant comes with a Whipple high pressure 2.9-liter supercharger on top, race-coated Mahle forged pistons, Manley H-beam connecting rods, race-balanced forged crankshaft, ported Boss cylinder heads and many other racing updates. Pricing is set at $28,600, which is not cheap but it’s also nowhere near the $97,990 sticker that comes with the whole 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet.

Speaking of the last fifth-generation Cobra Jet, production of 2014 iteration is already underway at Watson Engineering in Taylor, Michigan. Only 50 units are scheduled to be built.
