After discontinuing the Ranger less than two years ago, Ford Motor Company is talking about a successor for the compact pickup.
According to a Car and Driver report, marketing manager for Ford Trucks, Doug Scott, said there's still a market for smaller pickups, with potential customers basically waiting for a cheaper and smaller F-150 truck.
"The overlap with full-size trucks in size, price, and fuel economy made no sense for the consumer," Doug Scott, the marketing manager for Ford trucks explained. "It led to the death of the shrinking of the compact segment from two million trucks to 250,000 last year."
Further more, Scott thinks Ford could very well offer a compact truck with a payload capacity of around 1,000 pounds, a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds and increased fuel efficiency.
“We’ve spent a lot of time with customers, and we know there is a market for a true compact truck. But you have to have—and we have a pretty good handle on it, we think—a significant difference in size, price, and fuel economy. We think we know what it looks like," added Scott.
We don't know yet if Ford will really introduce a F-100 model, but it might prove to be a successful decision considering that the Ranger is indeed a missed truck among enthusiasts.
