The U.S. automaker and the 2021 King of the Hammers off-road race are tight, we already knew that. After all, the Blue Oval was clear about how the Bronco Built Wild sub-brand was intensely sponsoring this and other ULTRA4 events. Still, we didn’t expect to see yet another racer after the previous introduction of the “custom-built Bronco race trucks” for the ULTRA4 4400 unlimited class.
Instead, the rumor mill (I included) was almost convinced that Ford will gift its loyal (and extremely patient) fans with a major treat for that “never-before-seen Bronco model debut.” Well, given how they played hide and seek with the most important performance figures of the all-new 2021 F-150 Raptor, it shouldn’t come out as a surprise that we ended up disappointed... again.

Instead of showing a preview of something that would be adopted by the masses - such as the 2022 Bronco Heritage Edition or, even better, the all-mighty Warthog - the company remained focused on motorsport with the introduction of the “Bronco 4600 stock class race vehicle.”

Granted, by the looks of this dedicated off-road racer, motorsport aficionados will have a cool alternative to Blue Oval rivals. Ford promises the brand-new Bronco racer will be created from the stock 2-Door Bronco chassis with the Sasquatch Package.

Also, the SUV will include a race-tuned 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine (again, no exact figures offered) as well as a competition-focused High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) system.

There’s an almost endless list of rock-crawling and high-speed off-roading goodies fitted to this racer, as Ford has partnered with major names in the industry. Those include Fox (suspension), Wilwood (brakes), Method Race Wheels (forged beadlocks), Dana (e-lock diff), Triton Engineering (control arms, rear links), Warn (winch), or Rigid (lights), among others.

The Bronco 4600 racers will feature a “war paint” competition livery that uses factory 2021 Bronco shades (Race Red, Oxford White, and Velocity Blue). Up front, the color scheme will honor the legacy of the 1969 Baja 1000-winning Bronco, while further towards the rear, “the lines get more diagonal, more futuristic, signaling the future of the brand,” as explained by Scott Guan, Bronco designer.
